How to Connect a Bluetooth Device
Bluetooth is used to connect wireless peripherals such as mice, keyboards, headsets, and speakers to your computer. The pairing process requires putting the device into "discoverable" mode so your computer can find it.
Pairing a New Device
- Put the Bluetooth device into pairing mode. This varies by device. Typically, press and hold the Bluetooth or power button until a light flashes rapidly. Refer to the device's manual if unsure.
- On your computer, open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Ensure Bluetooth is turned on (toggle at the top).
- Click Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth.
- Windows will search for nearby devices. When your device appears, click it to pair.
- Follow any on-screen prompts (some devices may ask you to confirm a PIN).
Common Issues
If the device does not appear in the search results, make sure it is in pairing mode (not just powered on). If you have previously paired the device with another computer or phone, you may need to "forget" it on the other device first. Some Bluetooth devices can only be paired with one computer at a time.
If Bluetooth Is Missing
If there is no Bluetooth toggle in Settings, your computer may not have Bluetooth hardware, or the driver may be disabled. Submit a ticket and CMO IT Services can check your hardware and drivers.
