I Can't Print or My Print Job Is Stuck
Print problems are usually caused by a stuck print queue, a lost connection between your computer and the printer, or a driver issue. Before contacting the helpdesk, these steps resolve the majority of printing issues.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Check the printer. Is it powered on? Does it have paper? Are there any error lights or messages on the printer's display? Clear any paper jams.
- Check your connection. If the printer is on the network, make sure your computer is connected to the same network. If it is a USB printer, verify the cable is securely connected.
- Clear the print queue. Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, click your printer, and select Open print queue. If there are stuck jobs, click Printer > Cancel All Documents.
- Restart the Print Spooler service. Press Windows + R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart. - Try printing a test page. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, click your printer, select Manage > Print a test page.
- Restart your computer. A full restart clears temporary issues with print services.
