I Can't Print or My Print Job Is Stuck

Print problems are usually caused by a stuck print queue, a lost connection between your computer and the printer, or a driver issue. Before contacting the helpdesk, these steps resolve the majority of printing issues.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check the printer. Is it powered on? Does it have paper? Are there any error lights or messages on the printer's display? Clear any paper jams.
  2. Check your connection. If the printer is on the network, make sure your computer is connected to the same network. If it is a USB printer, verify the cable is securely connected.
  3. Clear the print queue. Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, click your printer, and select Open print queue. If there are stuck jobs, click Printer > Cancel All Documents.
  4. Restart the Print Spooler service. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter. Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
  5. Try printing a test page. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, click your printer, select Manage > Print a test page.
  6. Restart your computer. A full restart clears temporary issues with print services.

If the Problem Persists

Submit a ticket with the printer name/model, the error message (if any), and what you have already tried. CMO IT Services can remotely diagnose driver and configuration issues.
