How to Request New Software or a Licence

How to Request New Software or a Licence

Your organization restricts software installation to approved applications to protect against malware, software conflicts, and licensing violations. If you need a new application or an upgrade to an existing one, the process is to submit a request through the helpdesk.

How to Submit a Request

  1. Submit a ticket with the following information:
    • The name of the software you need
    • The publisher's website (so we can verify it is legitimate)
    • Why you need it (what task or workflow it supports)
    • Whether it is a free tool or requires a licence purchase
  2. CMO IT Services will review the request. We check for security concerns, compatibility with your system, and licensing requirements.
  3. Approval and installation. If approved, we will install the software remotely or make it available for self-installation through your organization's application catalogue. If the software requires a licence purchase, we will coordinate with your manager or procurement contact.

Why We Do It This Way

Unvetted software is one of the most common ways malware enters business networks. Even legitimate-looking free tools can contain bundled malware or adware. By routing software requests through the helpdesk, we ensure that every application on your computer is verified, properly licensed, and compatible with your security configuration.

Common Pre-Approved Applications

Your organization likely has a set of pre-approved applications that can be installed quickly. Ask CMO IT Services for your organization's approved application list if you are unsure what is already available.

Need software? Submit a ticket and a CMO IT Services technician will assist you.
